Statistical offices need to balance the use of their human, financial and data resources to address the increasing demand for current, future and ad-hoc informational needs for the policy makers and society. AI is presenting data production and dissemination with both opportunities and pitfalls. Do these emerging issues impact policy formulation? To what extent can institutional design and sound data governance strengthen public decision making while mitigating exposure to data fallacies?

The conference included three panels:
A. Legal, ethical and institutional aspects of the use of AI, centering on legal and ethical considerations and institutional readiness;
B. Economic and productivity prospects of AI, centering on the economic impact and productivity changes AI brings and
C. The AI-induced transformation of the information industry, centering on the changes of the information industry because of AI, particularly around production, automation, and data
quality.

The conference took place, at the Onassis Foundation Auditorium, within the National Gallery – Alexandros Soutsos Museum in Athens, Greece.
